Amber Howard sees children (7+), adolescents and adults in West Perth and Como
Hello. I look forward to letting you know a little about myself.
I have over 20 years of experience helping children, adolescents, adults, and their families in Australia and the UK. I returned to study psychology as a mature-aged student and have since worked for the last 12 years as a clinical psychologist in Perth in both government and private sector settings.
My main areas of practice are:
- Anxiety: worry, fears, phobias (children and adults)
- Depression and low mood (children and adults)
- Stress (children and adults)
- Relationship difficulties (children and adults)
- Childhood behavioural problems (anger, temper, not listening)
- Children’s cognitive assessments
- Sleep difficulties (children and adults)
As an experienced clinical psychologist, I have expertise providing therapy with individuals (children and adults), couples, and families, addressing challenges with stress, mental health, relationship problems, and behaviour. I also have experience providing services to individuals with Intellectual Disability (ID) and/or Autism, as well as working within specialised child and adolescent mental health services, paediatric and adult hospital settings, as well as specialised educational settings.
My role as a clinical psychologist is to support you to achieve your goals. I draw from evidence-based therapeutic interventions, such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Brief Solution Focused Therapy (BSFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness techniques. I also like to empower you to make change and take small steps on a daily basis towards your goals.
Clinical Psychology Supervision and training services
I am passionate about my profession and have a past and current history representing psychologists and post-graduate students on various university and Australian Psychological Society (APS) committees. In addition, in 2012 I obtained my AHPRA and Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) approvals to act as either a Primary or Secondary Board Approved Supervisor (BAS). That means I am eligible to provide supervision to psychologists, clinical psychologists, clinical psychology registrars, postgraduate students on placement, and Provisional Psychologists engaged in the 4+2 or 5+1 registration pathway. This type of service helps to upskill clinicians in the field and enables them to deliver more effective and efficient services to their clients.
