No. A doctor’s referral is not necessary to access our services. You can use private health fund ancillary rebates if you have cover. Please check with your fund to find out the rebate level you will receive for Clinical Psychology consultations.

You will be eligible for a Medicare rebate for up to 10 Clinical Psychology sessions per calendar year if you are referred by your GP under a ‘mental health care plan’ (out of pocket cost per session = $75.50-$93.50), or you are referred by a psychiatrist or paediatrician. If you are not referred under a Care Plan, please check with your GP to determine your eligibility for a care plan. We have a strong network of GP contacts, so if you need help getting a referral please let us know.

No. Medical practitioners (e.g., your GP, paediatrician or psychiatrist) will be responsible for prescribing you with appropriate medication if this is required.

Sessions are 50 minutes in duration. We offer in both in-person and telehealth consultations over phone/online video interface. The number and frequency of sessions is dependent upon a number of factors including: (i) the severity of the problem; (ii) whether a number of problems exist concurrently (e.g., depression/anxiety & insomnia); (iii) how ready, willing and able you are to implement strategies discussed during sessions. It is important to be able to commit to at least 4 sessions. We offer weekday, evening and Saturday appointments.

When you book, you will be asked to complete some short online questionnaires that assess your level of stress, anxiety and mood. In your first session, you will be asked questions so we can understand your situation and start generating a treatment plan.

You will be given something to read, be asked to reflect, or asked to try a new strategy or exercise after each session. Implementing new strategies can be challenging but it is important to follow to instructions as closely and consistently as possible in order to achieve maximum benefit. Time will be spent in sessions helping you to find a way to stick the strategy you are implementing. We will ask for feedback at each session so that therapy can be refined in a collaborative way. Usually the treatment will not take a lot of time during your week but giving some time to your therapy in between sessions is important for maximising its effectiveness.
