Clinical Psychologist Perth - Olivia Carter
Dr Olivia Carter Clinical Psychologist Perth

I completed my postgraduate training in Clinical Psychology at The University of Western Australia in 2015 and worked full time in the health department for several years following this. I’ve now been working part time in private practice at Jeffery & Ree Clinical Psychology since early 2020 and have loved the opportunity to broaden the range of clients I am working with on various presenting problems. I strive to always bring a warm and professional manner to the work that I do, and have a strong desire to work hard with my clients to help them achieve their goals.

I have experience working with adults and older adolescents (in both individual and group treatment settings) presenting with a range of issues including:

  • Mood disorders (e.g., depression)
  • Anxiety presentations (including chronic worry, social anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, and OCD)
  • Overthinking / rumination
  • Stress
  • Insomnia
  • problematic dieting / difficult relationships with food and general body image concerns (please note, we are unable to offer treatment for eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa at this service)

I’m dedicated to delivering effective, evidence-based therapies that have been well-researched, and am conscious of balancing treatment protocols with the individual needs of each client. I work primarily from a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) framework and I’ve also received training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I’m particularly passionate about the delivery of Metacognitive Therapy (a type of CBT intervention), that has great evidence for assisting clients who have difficulties with engaging in repetitive, negative thinking (such as worrying about the future, or ruminating on past events).

I continue to maintain active engagement with research in the field of psychology in order to work towards improving treatment outcomes for clients. I’ve worked on several papers that have been published in peer reviewed scientific journals and I keep up to date with the latest treatment research. I also serve the profession of psychology as a member of several professional associations and committees.
