Who are we?
J&R Clinical Psychologists (incorporating Sleep Matters www.sleepmattersperth.com.au) is a long established clinical psychology practice in West Perth and Como.
At J&R Clinical Psychologists, we’ve been providing care for the West Australian and Perth community for many years.
Directors Paul Jeffery and Dr Melissa Ree have been working in private practice in Perth since 2004 and provide a depth of clinical and industry experience to our team. Dr Melissa Ree is nationally and internationally renouned for her work in eviddence-based insomnia treatment, and advocating for the role of sleep in mental health. She is also a UWA lecturer and is involved in postgradaute training. Paul Jeffery is an experienced supervisor and has previously worked at the WA Instituate of Sport (WAIS) and in the WA Health Department for many years. Michelle LaPuma, our clinical team leader has been with us for 10 years and has a strong background in supervision, research and treatment of disorderd eating. As a leadership team we value long, supportive and trusting relationships.
We provide general clinical psychology services to children, adolescents, adults and families. We offer performance/sport psychology services and sleep disorder treatments. We also offer group treatments. Our team have varied caseloads, but also the capacity to dive deep into a chosen niche area if they wish. We are an agile team who value innovation and our team is fantastic in offering suggestions for how we can continually improve or offer new services. We have regular professional development including online evening presentations, guest speakers, team days, and peer supervision groups.

Our mission is to support people to thrive, and we apply this to our clients, our referrers, and our team.
We have a structured onboarding process to get our new team members off to a great start. We provide training and supervision in behavioural sleep medicine (e.g., insomnia treatment) to all new clinical team members. Our Sleep Matters service is Perth’s only dedicated sleep psychology service (see our sister site www.sleepmattersperth.com.au) and the training and supervision in the sleep space allows us to continue to enjoy our position as leaders in the field. Our clinical team describe their clinical sleep work to be hugely rewarding and interesting.
We offer a registrar program for those undergoing their clinical endorsement journey. There are regular peer supervision, support, and social opportunities also.
We support and expect a high degree of professionalism from our team but we also pride ourselves on working flexibly with each J&R team member, taking the time to get to know each individual's motivations and career aspirations. In short, we work hard to support each team member to feel valued, satisfied, and stimulated in their role with us. Our aim is to understand and support each team member's career goals.
We can offer career progression pathways for clinical psychologists who would like to take on more senior roles and even move into profit-sharing models for those who are interested in the business side of private practice psychology.
